The Young and Empowered project dubbed ‘My health, my responsibility’ has a vision to see to it that Children and youths in target communities have improved quality life and experience psychological, social, economic and spiritual well-being.  They are able to socially integrate (belonging), make informed choices (independence), have positive sustainable livelihoods (Technical & entrepreneurial skills) and actively engage in the life of their communities to bring about positive change (generosity/ altruism).  They know their rights and are able to access them.

The mission is to build the resilience of children and youths by strengthening their social, human, economic and environmental capitals using the circle of courage model. The proposed intervention aligns with the ADRA Strategic Framework Change Goals 1 and 2, and meets the development priorities in Health, education and Sustainable Livelihoods.

In Zambia, the project is working with youths in Mtendere and Kamanga Peri urban areas with over 600 youths and children, 20 adult mentors and 60 parents.

WINS PROJECT
SCHOOL GARDENS GROWING STRONG IN CHIRUNDU AND SIAVONGA: In 2020, ADRA through the WASH Integrating Nutrition in Schools (WINS) Project established vegetable gardens at 3 schools namely Nkadabbwe Primary School, Chininde Primary School and Kapululira Secondary School.
ADRA focuses on improving school feeding programs, water and sanitation for the pupils and the community at large.
With support from the #GermanDevelopmentCooperation and #Kinderzukunft ADRA has drilled and set up solar powered water systems which are serving at least 5000 people.
To improve sanitation, ADRA is in the process of establishing modern toilet facilities and is also training girls on how to make reusable sanitary pads.
Leafy vegetables 🥬🥬are the most produced crops in the school gardens, especially Rape, and Cabbages. Cowpeas, okra, tomato, and pepper are also popular. The gardens are also producing water melons.
Harvested vegetables are sent to the school canteens for inclusion in school meals, and any surplus is sold in the communities to earn income for the school gardens and canteen.
