Lubotu Dairy Farm’s Triumph in the Jersey Herd Competition

Empowered Through the Jersey Breed Focused Dairy Development Project (JBFDDZ)

In the heart of Chibombo District, a spirit of hard work and innovation has brought remarkable success to Lubotu Dairy Farm, proudly emerging as the overall winner in the Jersey Herd Competition.

“I am delighted to share the success story of Lubotu Dairy Farm,” said Lubu Sindele Chiyasa, the farm’s Director. “Our participation in the Jersey Herd Competition yielded outstanding and unexpected results as we emerged as the overall winners in Chibombo District. This achievement is a testimony to our team’s dedication, expertise, and commitment to excellence in dairy farming.”

Lubu attributes this success to the ongoing support and empowerment provided by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Zambia, under the Jersey Breed Focused Dairy Development Project (JBFDDZ).

“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to ADRA Zambia for their recognition and support,” she said. “They have been instrumental in promoting dairy farming and creating opportunities for farmers like us to showcase our skills. Through their guidance, we have learned valuable practices in herd management, feeding strategies, and hygiene.”

With Support form Jersey Overseas Aid through Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticulture Society, ADRA Zambia has supported Lubotu Dairy Farm with donations of high-quality Jersey semen straws for Artificial Insemination (AI) a key step in improving the herd’s genetics and productivity. “So far, we have successfully inseminated fourteen (14) of our cows with Jersey semen to maintain the high standards of our herd’s DNA. We truly appreciate this support,” added Lubu.

As she proudly walks among her bulling heifers, Lubu reflects on how far they have come. “This achievement not only validates our hard work but also motivates us to continue striving for excellence in the dairy business. We look forward to leveraging this success to expand our capacity and contribute to the growth of the dairy industry in Zambia.”
