Gwembe District, Zambia
In a continued effort to support vulnerable communities affected by drought and climate change, ADRA Zambia, with funding support from Christian Blind Mission (CBM), has provided food assistance to 600 households in Gwembe and Mambwe Districts under the Empowering Communities through Sustainable Water Access, Agricultural Innovation and Resilience Building Project.
The food support, valued at K1,140,000, will benefit households for a period of three months, November, December, and January during the peak of the lean season. Each beneficiary household is receiving a ration equivalent to 25kg mealie meal, 5kg beans, 1.5 liters of cooking oil, and 1kg of salt, all provided as cash transfers.
Significantly, 80% of the beneficiaries are persons with disabilities and their families, aligning with ADRA Zambia’s commitment to ensuring that humanitarian interventions are inclusive and equitable.
Speaking during the official flag-off ceremony held in Gwembe District, District Commissioner Mr. Killian Chikandula commended ADRA Zambia and CBM for complementing government efforts in addressing food insecurity and building community resilience.
“This initiative is timely and greatly appreciated. It demonstrates that when government and development partners work together, we can make a real difference in the lives of our people,” said Mr. Chikandula.

ADRA Zambia Country Director, Mr. Kennedy Habasimbi, emphasized that the intervention not only responds to immediate food needs but also seeks to restore dignity and hope among affected families.
“This support goes beyond food it represents solidarity, compassion, and resilience. ADRA Zambia remains committed to empowering communities to thrive even in the face of challenges such as drought,” said Mr. Habasimbi.

Through this partnership, ADRA Zambia continues to uphold its mission of Serving Humanity so All May Live as God Intended, promoting inclusion, dignity, and self-reliance among Zambia’s most vulnerable populations.
