🌾 Empowering Farmers, A Visit of the Cowpea Seed Multiplier in Nyimba

In the rolling fields of Nyimba, Eastern Province, the work of smallholder farmers is undergoing a quiet transformation, thanks to the FARMS Project supported by Australian Aid 🇦🇺. During a recent field visit, the Project staff, had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the remarkable impact of the cowpea seed multiplier program on local farmers’ lives.

The journey began early in the morning, with a warm greeting from the community members whose hard work has been nurtured through the FARMS Project. These farmers have been trained and equipped to become cowpea seed multipliers—producing high-quality seeds that not only improve their crop yields but also generate income through selling to other farmers and markets. 🌱💵

As the ADRA staff walked through the fields, it was evident that these cowpeas were more than just a crop; they were the key to food security and economic empowerment for families in Nyimba. “The quality of seeds we now have access to has drastically improved our yields,” explained James Bwalya, a famer and project participant. “Our harvests are not only bigger, but they are also helping us to diversify our income and feed our families better.” 🌾🥗

The FARMS Project focuses on building climate-resilient farming practices, ensuring that farmers are not only growing crops but are also learning how to adapt to the changing climate. Through comprehensive training on sustainable farming techniques and access to quality seed, smallholder farmers are equipped to thrive in challenging conditions. 🌍🌞

As the visit concluded, the project coordinator Jonathan Zimuto expressed pride in seeing the tangible results of the FARMS Project in action. “This is a testament to the power of collaboration and community-led solutions. The work done here in Nyimba is setting a new standard for agriculture in Zambia,” Jonathan said with a smile.

For the farmers of Nyimba, the journey is far from over. With continued support, they are not just growing crops—they are growing their futures.
